Carphone Warehouse the British mobile phone retailer, with over 2,400 stores across Europe (Phone House) launched yesterday its own MVNO (hosted by 3 UK) called – iD – in the UK. It will be available from all Carphone Warehouse stores, online and through selected UK stores.
The new service has some of the most competitive 4G plans and roaming rates on the UK market. iD offers free data roaming in the form of ‘Takeaway’ plans which start at £25.50 (€35.70) per month and cover usage in 22 countries including the US and Australia, which puts it ahead of UK Three’s ‘Feel at Home‘ service that currently covers 18 countries.
The countries covered are: United States of America, Australia, Spain, Ireland, Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Poland and Romania.
Customers will be able to take out “shockproof” 4G contracts from £7.50 per month, which are automatically capped to “avoid nasty surprises”, according to the mobile phone retailer. For example, those opting for the £7.50 “shockproof” plan will get 150 minutes, 5,000 texts and 250MB of data and a Lumia 635 smartphone for no up-front cost.
SIM-only plans start from £7.50 per month with data-only deals available from £5.00 per month as well. The Flexible SIM-only offers are 30 day rolling contracts and there’s a £20.00 launch promotion that gives you 2,000 minutes, 5,000 texts and unlimited data. There are also 12 and 24 month contacts. iD calls these its ‘Go To’ plans for people who are ‘always on.’ They start at £13.50 per month and £11.50 per month respectively.
