Friday 16 March London. ROCCO commences the widest ever study with MNOs into Roaming M-IoT* for Mobile Operators.

Internet of things is certainly bringing new opportunities for MNOs. Recent research studies say that working with M-IoT in addition to standard IoT will bring an additional 11% revenues to MNOs in the future. But how is M-IoT going to work with Roaming?

Mobile Internet of Things (M-IoT), a GSMA term which refers to the 3GPP standardised Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) technologies using the licenced band (aka LTE-M, NB-IoT and EC-GSM-IoT. From 3GPP Release 13 and the following Releases, the Category of UEs that support power consumption optimisations, extended coverage and lower complexity are part of MIoT (CAT M1, CAT NB1 from Release 13 and CAT M2, CAT NB2 from Release 14). As this particular term is widely used throughout GSMA, it is utilized also in this document. *Not to be confused with the term “mIoT” which means 5G massive IoT in 3GPP terminology.

Our aim in ROCCO is to take as many MNO responses as possible and answer some of the questions below via a simple and MNO survey for Technology or Commercial people, either side can contribute, knowing about one or the other are or both:

MNOs can respond to the Survey here

This research is open for 49 days.

This research is not sponsored and is presented exclusively by ROCCO. We do not sell or market any products related to Roaming, we cover our costs for the project through selling advanced version of our reports.

MNOs taking part in the survey will receive a copy of the report for free

The Roaming M-IoT Strategy Report 2018 contents will contain:

  • What LTE-M, NB-IoT and EC-GSM-IoT plans do MNOs have
  • What contribution to their revenues do they perceive from it
  • How will they implement it technically
  • When will they implement it
  • When will they have M-IoT Devices
  • What challenges have they faced or do they expect to face

Many thanks for your participation in ROCCO Research.
